This Peppermint Schnapps Hot Chocolate takes hot chocolate to a whole new level by adding a fun twist and minty flavor. It's rich and decadent feeling but also really easy to make. Whipped cream, crushed peppermint, and mini marshmallows are added on top for extra fun.
This hot chocolate only takes a few ingredients and comes together quickly. Using good quality chocolate will help to make sure it tastes rich and decadent. I like to use bittersweet chocolate, but you can use milk chocolate if you like.
A FEW NOTES BEFORE WE GET STARTED
- Measuring Your Ingredients:

You'll combine the milk, sugar, and finely chopped chocolate in a nonstick pan. Cook this over medium heat, stirring constantly until the chocolate melts.
Once everything is well combined, take the pan off the heat and stir in the peppermint schnapps. You can add 1-1 ½ oz peppermint schnapps to the cocoa depending on how strong you want the drink to be.
If you're not sure, start off with 1 oz, taste it, and add another ½ oz if you like. Carefully divide it in between two mugs.
Now we can make that delicious whipped cream. Combine the heavy cream and sugar in a medium sized bowl. Mix on medium-high with a handheld or stand mixer until somewhat stiff peaks have formed. If you're using a stand mixer, make sure to use the whisk attachment.
Add a spoonful of whipped cream to the top of each mug. Top both mugs with crushed peppermint and marshmallows. Enjoy!

- 8 oz (1 cup) milk
- 1 ½ tbsp sugar
- 1 ½ oz bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
- 1-1 ½ oz peppermint schnapps
Whipped Cream
- 113 grams (½ cup) heavy cream
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Crushed peppermint, for topping
- Mini marshmallows, for topping

- Combine milk, sugar, and chocolate in a small nonstick pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until chocolate melts and is well combined.
- Take off the heat and stir in the peppermint schnapps.
- Carefully pour into mugs.
Whipped Cream
- Combine heavy cream and sugar in a medium sized bowl. Mix on medium-high with a handheld or stand mixer until somewhat stiff peaks have formed.
- Add a spoonful of whipped cream to the top of each mug. Top with crushed peppermint and marshmallows.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- This cocoa is best enjoyed as soon as you make it. Whipped Cream can be made before cocoa and kept in the fridge with plastic wrap. I recommend mixing it again slightly before adding it to the cocoa.
- If you need a kid friendly version, omit the peppermint schnapps and add extra crushed peppermint for the peppermint flavor.
