Alice in Wonderland premiered on July 26, 1951 and follows the adventures of a young girl named Alice as she makes her way through the exciting world of Wonderland.

Did you know that this was not the first time that Walt had worked on this story? He created the Alice Comedies in the 1920’s, which featured a live-action Alice that was incorporated into a cartoon world. He even considered modeling Alice in Wonderland after this same sort of style, but ultimately decided not to.

I took these pictures at The Walt Disney Family Museum, and they show a glimpse of what the Alice Comedies were like.

For this version of #marisabakesdisney, I wanted to focus on one of my favorite parts of the movie. I have always loved when Alice comes across the two different bowls of beautiful cookies, eats one, and immediately changes in size, so I decided to replicate both sets of cookies from the movie.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?” – Alice in Wonderland

Cinderella debuted on February 15, 1950, and Disney’s version of the classic story immediately became a huge hit.

Did you know that the animation sequence in which Cinderella transforms from her torn dress into her beautiful ball gown was Walt’s all time favorite piece of animation? ✨

I decided to bring this classic to life with a vanilla cake layered with Swiss meringue buttercream and covered in sugar sprinkles. I hand cut cookie letters to match the same font as the title sequence at the beginning of the film. I even made an edible glass slipper to go with it!

Bambi

Bambi premiered on August 13, 1942, and was Disney’s first animated movie to not feature any humans. It was also Walt’s favorite movie!

Did you know that Bambi was originally scheduled to be Disney’s second movie released? However, the level of research that went into making the animals seem realistic postponed its release until 1942. In order to help the animators master the characteristics and features of the different animals in the film, Walt brought a variety of animals to temporarily live on the studio lot, including two fawns.

I made a chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream, a salted caramel drizzle, and a chocolate deer design to commemorate the film. I was so inspired by the beautiful scenery throughout the film, that I couldn’t help but incorporate a bit of that too 🌼
